Design Story: Ashbury (2006)

One of the earliest cutlery designs created for Robert Welch by Kit deBretton Gordon, Ashbury takes inspiration from historic cutlery and is reminiscent of the shape of ‘pistol grip’ knives.

Now Head of Design, Kit recalls the design process for Ashbury: “I liked the concept of the handle fitting beautifully into the palm of the hand, and I developed the design from there. Cutlery should be an extension of the hand and multiple versions of the prototype knife were made to hone the feeling of balance whilst holding and using.”
