Design Story: Bud

Taking inspiration from the bud of the lotus, this pattern really captures the formal beauty of nature. The tightly wrapped and pointed shoot of the flower appears through foliage floating on the water’s surface - a tall, slender stem, unfurling and fragrant.

It was intended to suit a more refined style of dining emerging at the time and Kit deBretton Gordon recalls her brief: "an elongated design with a delicacy to mirror the elegance of fine dining. I loved creating something unique and unlike anything we had in the Robert Welch portfolio at the time."
