CRAFTING A LASTING DESIGN LEGACY
- We are fortunate to still work from the same buildings in the Cotswold town of Chipping Campden where Robert Welch established his studio and workshop in 1955. As we celebrate our 70th anniversary in this town, we invite you to a special behind-the-scenes talk.
A pioneer of modern British silver, Robert Welch’s innovations in stainless steel design formed a legacy which today’s company is proud to build upon.
Company Archivist, Charlotte Booth will be talking about how that legacy developed. Drawing from the company archives, we learn this journey wasn’t just about designing beautiful objects; it was about responding to the evolving world around him.
The talk will look at aspirations, inspirations, key designs, stories, and pivotal moments across seven decades.

“Robert Welch (…) trained in silversmithing at the Royal College of Art in London, and although he has diversified a great deal since, all his work shows a craftsman’s discipline and ardour. Silver is his backbone, so to speak.”
Fiona MacCarthy, biographer and art historian, 1965
