Asking: ‘can it be improved’? is one of the abiding design principles we have always worked to, founded in Robert Welch’s own philosophy. We believe in enhancing the everyday with impactful, long-lasting design for the home, and we have been doing so since 1955.
Beauty and functionality should go hand in hand, especially in designing practical objects for the bathroom. Robert Welch expertise in general ironmongery, such as bathroom fixtures and fittings, door handles and letterboxes dates as far back as the 1960s, but that part of our portfolio subsided until we launched Burford in 2010 and Oblique in 2014.
Tasked to take a functional, everyday product and to elevate it, the design process began with rigorous questioning of every aspect of how we could make our bathroom products the best they could possibly be.
Both Bathroom Collections have been a success because of this, and some of the reasons why Burford and Oblique remain bestselling designs, include:
Durability; the pieces are built to last. Rather than using chrome-plated brass, as most designs of this nature do, 18/10 mirror polished stainless steel was used - ideal for the bathroom environment as it doesn't rust or corrode.
Quality; accessories and fittings are made in 18/10 stainless steel, in as few pieces as possible, thereby increasing each product’s life.
Aesthetics; the designs are classic, will complement any style of décor and last a long time without looking outdated.
Hygiene; the shower baskets feature removable shelves for ease of cleaning, and the brush element of the toilet brush can be easily replaced.
