CAKE DECORATING WITH LUCY EVANS

Our Studio Shop event for May 2024 was a cake decorating masterclass. Lucy ran a two-hour workshop, sharing her experience, secrets and techniques with guests.

We learnt some professional tricks, including her foolproof ingredients and method for baking a moist carrot cake and Victoria sponge with complementary buttercreams. She advised which tools and nozzles to use for different decorative icing techniques, topping it off with her pre-made miniature carrots, ribbons and swirls. 

In the second half of the event, Lucy detailed how to make, build and decorate a cake that is often aspired to by home bakers - a triple-tier, chocolate ganache drip cake. She demonstrated a two-tone icing effect on the sides, applying the theatrical drip effect. To elevate the bake to a professional standard, Lucy finished the cake with marble-effect icing (using up leftover buttercream for no wastage, of course!) and round, royal gold spheres - aka Maltesers sprayed in edible glitter.

During the demonstration there was an opportunity to talk, shop, try out icing a cupcake or just sample one. Seasoned home cooks, food and design enthusiasts got together to share creative chat & baking inspiration.
