Design Notes

The Limbrey mills were inspired by the shape of silver pieces designed by Robert Welch in 1963. He was commissioned by Heal’s to create a range of table silver for sale in their London shop. The collection was shown at a special exhibition at Heal’s in 1964, and items on display would be made to commission from the Chipping Campden Workshop.

This modern interpretation is made from 18/10 mirror-polished stainless steel with a walnut top and featuring a fully adjustable ceramic CrushGrind® mechanism. The ceramic mechanism delivers unrivalled levels of precision and can grind salt, pepper or dried herbs and spices.

Please note that, due to the natural wood material used to produce this product, colour variations may occur.

Design Story: Limbrey

Design Story: Limbrey

The Heal’s collection was of great importance, it established the style of the workshop and led to the opening of the Robert Welch Studio Shop in Chipping Campden. The range was unified by the soft undulating curve of silver, rosewood flat-topped lids and handles mounted in silver sockets. In 1964 Heal’s served as the ‘window’ for silver made in the Campden Workshop, but with the opening of his Chipping Campden Studio Shop in 1969 this concept became a permanent retail platform for Robert Welch.

Today, the company works to ensure its rich legacy remains an inspiration to the design team, whilst continuing to innovate in terms of technique and technology.
