Robert Welch prove to have ‘golden touch’ as the English Culinary team takes gold in the Culinary Olympics
Another Olympic gold has been won in 2016 with the company’s support. But this time in the art of cooking not rowing!
Following the Olympic success of local rowing star Matt Gotrel in Rio this summer, Robert Welch Designs were proud to support the English Culinary team in the sporting event’s culinary equivalent in Erfurt, Germany.
The Culinary Olympics, held every four years, see more than 2,000 professional chefs from 30 nations compete in a series of grueling challenges over 4 days. This year’s competition took place from 23-26 October in Erfurt, Germany.
With Signature knives in hand, the British team cooked up a storm in the ‘hot kitchen’ using a range of knives in preparation of the dishes.
Team manager Nick Vadis speaking about the support ahead of the event said:
‘It’s great to have the support of such an iconic English brand, which represents such great design, flair and creativity, which we as a team are trying to achieve'
The English squad had to produce three courses focusing on their national specialist food for 110 covers including judges in the hot service element of the competition and were awarded the gold medal in the Restaurant of Nations Hot Kitchen.
Speaking after the event team manager, Nick Vadis said:
‘Great result - best ever for team England, was it the knives that made the difference?!’
Sarah Egan - head of hospitality said:
‘We were really proud to be able to support the team and delighted we were able to help in our own small way. This is a fantastic testament to the hard work and preparation that went into this competition and helps to put our culinary talent on the global map.’
The British Culinary Federation (BCF) team members included Andrew Ditchfield (House of Commons); Clark Crawley (Gather & Gather); Rob Kennedy (Royal Military Academy Sandhurst); Nathan Aldous (Emmanuel College, Cambridge University); Dennis Mwakulua (Eversheds); Matt Jones (House of Commons); and Daniel Abbs (Emmanuel College).
