The celebration of 60 years of Robert Welch Designs culminated in a launch event to celebrate the release of 'Robert Welch – Design: Craft and Industry' by Charlotte and Peter Fiell.

Robert Welch – Design: Craft and Industry by Charlotte and Peter Fiell was officially launched on Wednesday 23rd September with a book launch event taking place during London Design Festival, at the Margaret Howell store on Wigmore Street.

Designer Margaret Howell has long been a fan of Robert Welch, she commented: “I once visited the attic above Robert Welch’s studio in Chipping Campden and was excited by the creative chaos of paper sketches, wooden moulds, hand tools and trial samples. It was still alive with ideas finding their way to a refined purity of form. This book presents his work as it deserves, allowing his designs, with their timeless strength and elegance, to speak for themselves.”

Attended by the great and good of the design world, the authors, friends and family of Alice and Rupert, the launch evening celebrated the culmination of a 15 year journey of discovery.

Prior to the evening, Alice commented: “My brother Rupert and I are looking forward to celebrating the publication of this wonderful book. The Robert Welch team has worked closely with Charlotte and Peter Fiell during the research process. We are lucky to have a wealth of archival material at our fingertips and look forward to sharing hitherto unseen material”

Illustrated with exclusive material from the Robert Welch Archive, including working sketches and rare archive photography, this is the definitive book on one of the 20th century’s greatest product designers.

With a foreword from Alice and Rupert Welch, Robert’s children and successors at the head of the family business, this book offers a truly personal insight into the life and work of this ground breaking designer.

Robert Welch – Design: Craft and Industry is available to purchase at and in the Chipping Campden or Bath Studio Shop.
