It’s that time of year again when the Summer holiday diets move out of our lives (thankfully) so that the bake off can move into our hearts (again, thankfully). We’re truly blessed here at Robert Welch with some absolutely cracking bakers, which means that cakes, biscuits and bakes make a frequent appearance in the office. With the popular programme back on our screens, the whole nation seems to fall in love with baking all over again and not solely because of Paul Hollywood’s blue eyes, we don’t think. Baking is therapeutic, satisfying and enjoyable so, in the spirit of all things sweet, we’ve put together a list of our favourite items for a successful afternoon with cake and friends (friends being the less important element in this instance).
For good measure, we’ve started at the basics; weighing scales. These are based upon an original Robert Welch design and, while so useful for their purpose, make a fantastic statement in any kitchen. Available in a variety of colours (with a variety of weight sets too), a set will easily create a bold look in the room.
For good pie, a good pie server must be supplied. The Iona, while slender and delicate, is deceptively broad too, which means there’ll be no skimping on the portion size. With a gentle serration on one underside, sharing and serving is an absolute breeze.
As featured on the programme itself, the Radford pastry forks are the perfect assistants in good cake eating etiquette. If you’re left-handed, never fear, we also have the Malvern pastry forks that have been designed to be ambidextrous. We understand that left-handed people must have cake too.
Bring the cake and tea will follow. It’s an undeniable soul mate pairing so we have faith that you wouldn’t consider leaving this vital element out. If you’re going ‘all out’ with some loose tea, it might even be worth investing in a Rushan tea strainer. Almost too pretty to use, it’s another example of the combination of true beauty and superb function.
Anyone for a tea party? The mighty Metro tea set takes afternoon tea to a whole new level of sophistication. Being 18/10 stainless steel, it’s all dishwasher safe too. Complete with teapot, sugar bowl, milk jug and tray, you’ll have everything you need to serve up a fantastic tea party in style.
Protect your clothing (flour really does get everywhere – how?) with a stylish apron. A bold Robert Welch print to save you from jam spillages and a fantastic gift for the foodie of the household, the apron is 100% woven cotton and is adjustable in size.
Making a great wedding gift too, the Radford cake knife is an absolute essential for sophisticated afternoon tea. Available in both bright and satin finishes, the shallow serration on the cake knife makes this classic design incredibly practical too.
