Now the dust has settled we are reminiscing and celebrating the amazing achievement of local rower Matt Gotrel who won gold at the Rio 2016 Olympic games.
Arriving by car into his hometown on 31st August, Matt Gotrel received the hero's welcome he deserved. Raised in Chipping Campden he was greeted by the town that had supported him through his Olympic journey with Olympic fever once again taking over shop windows and bunting festooning the high street.
After a short meet and greet he was joined by his family, friends and well-wishers to celebrate his success at the Cotswold House Hotel and Spa, where a video montage of his road to Rio was shown along with a replay of his race and an emotional video of his friends and family watching him secure his gold medal back home.
With ITV in attendance Matt's welcome home party drew quite the audience and we were proud to be a part of his return to Chipping Campden.
There is no doubt that the Olympic medals won by local athletes such as Matt are set to inspire a generation and we are privileged to be supporting him.
